Written on March 11, 2014 by Dirk Hopfl in IE News

There are few moments to present a uniquely differentiated new MBA program. The IE-SMU MBA is one of those occasions in which two leading academic institution bring together a sound mix of elements, blend them and create a true EDUCATIONAL FUSION.

The IE-SMU MBA is an intensive 10-month MBA program developed jointly by IE and Singapore Management University to shape top talent in Asia. This blended MBA offers insights into Asia-Pacific markets, business strategies and management cultures. The program is angled around 5 periods (1 week full-time at the beginning in Singapore, 3 weekend periods in Singapore and one last period of 4 days in Madrid) intercepted by interactive online periods. Those online periods are delivered either through real-time video conferences or through asynchronous forum discussions.

A hands-on, case-based approach mainly with cases from Asian businesses aligns smoothly with the project-based learning along the program in which participants work with companies on real projects geared to improve efficiency and productivity.

University students go online

An online class at IE University

2012 is an era full of different open initiatives around the globe, but there is still one very important question for institutional learning: How is it possible to integrate online learning and face to face classes effectivly in a formal higher education setting?

As some of you may know, at IE University students from the bachelor degrees have large internship phases incorporated into their studyplans. All students are required to gain practical work experience with internships all around the globe (UK, USA, India, Germany, among many other countries) and at the same time theoretical and practical online classes. The study programs include both on-site and online sessions in a dynamic combination, unparalleled in any other school.

Students have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in their professional fields right from the start of the program. This exercise in experiential learning allows partipcants the chance to engage directly with real-world professionals from the first year of the program.

As one of the professors mentioned: “This is a great opportunity for students to study and gain work experience at the same time. Personally I enjoy teaching online.”

Students enjoy their first online experience, “because it is an innovative way of colaborating instantly. This fosters a participatory culture and a lot of our future capacities.” – Welcome to the IE online experience.

IE’s Global MBA ranks 1st worldwide

Written on July 19, 2012 by Dirk Hopfl in IE News

IE Business School has been ranked the No. 1 business school in the world by the QS Distance Online MBA Ranking, an international survey conducted by QS Intelligence Unit.

The ranking examines the quality of online, distance and blended MBA programs, and is based on criteria that include the employability of graduates, student profiles, levels of diversity, faculty, academic experience and international accreditations of the MBA program.

The ranking reflects the fact that in 2008 4.4% of MBA program candidates were interested mainly in online and distance MBAs, rising to 15.6% in 2012. Nunzio Quacquarelly, editor of the Top MBA Careers Guide, said that the attraction of this type of MBA is growing among candidates and recruiters, who recognize the value of such programs run by prestigious schools. “This new ranking provides a snapshot of a sector that is evolving fast. It’s a new tool that will help students select an MBA program.” Newton Campos, Director of Admissions for Blended Programs at IE Business School, says that there has been a major shift in the mentality of businesses, particularly in innovative, high-tech companies that operate online. “These firms prefer graduates from our blended MBAs, which combine online and onsite learning, to traditional face-to-face programs. Recruiters realize that these graduates have the profile and skills they need.” Read more…
